Abstract

The purpose of this study is to clarify the correlation between the work-life balance (WLB), job satisfaction, and intention to quit work in those who work at nursing homes.

The subjects of this investigation were care workers employed in facilities covered by public aid providing long-term care to the elderly. The investigation method was to randomly select 1,000 nursing homes across Japan to conduct a self-administered questionnaire. Data used for analysis were the responses that were obtained from 317 participants.

Structural equation modeling was used to clarify the correlation between the constructs of the WLB, job satisfaction and intention to quit work among care workers.

The results of this analysis indicated that WLB was positively correlated to job satisfaction and negatively correlated to the intention to quit. They also indicated that job satisfaction was negatively correlated to the intention to quit.

The above results suggest that, for care workers, WLB increases job satisfaction and also is influential in reducing their intention to quit. Additionally, it became apparent that the increase in job satisfaction due to WLB was influential in reducing the care workers’ intentions to quit work.
