Abstract
The Life Training Service under "the Law to Support the Independence of Persons with Disabilities" is a service of social rehabilitation, and the aim of the service should be to help the service users to attain social functioning ability for realizing their independent and happy life in community. Through the data collecting and hearing methods to 5 leading agencies and their 25 cases, the research aimed to gather information on the present situation of the Living Training Service and to clarify which methods and programs better fulfill the purpose of the Life Training Service. Our analysis of the research results showed that these agencies are providing good individualized support service for daily life, but the proper services to help users to attain social functioning abilities have not been provided. The reason for this situation was understood to be attributable to the term limitation of the service that users may use and the lack of finance to employ professional staff to provide the proper services for attaining social functioning ability. The 25 case studies clarified the six important areas for training as: Psychiatric medical care including medication management, Self-care, Rhythm of life, Awareness of illness and disability, Communication and Work. To realize the purpose of the Life Training Service, various measures might be required, such as staff training programs to help users to attain social functioning ability and the financial measures to employ competent staff.
