Description

This paper studies the postwar settlement in Taiwan through analyzing two case studies. One case is the way Taiwanese are treated by the mainland China during the settlement process against Japan. The other is the process of dealing with case of Japanese being murdered by Taiwanese in Taiwan along the criminal court. The postwar settlement in Taiwan included the hard task of judgment Taiwanese offenders as well as Japanese. Taiwan reverted back to chinese rule soon after W.W. II, but the people in the island, at the same time, were accused of responsibility for the war as "Japanese." On the other hand, Democratic group in Taiwan, which Japan also oppressed unreasonably, despaired of their home country's proper transaction against Japan. They were very abandoned in exile, and the most circumstances of postwar settlement in Taiwan have still not been made clear.
