Abstract
This essay tries to analyse some aspects of the mechanism of 'narrating' memories of the Second World War and the colonial era, which was seen in the 60th commemoration of the end of the Second World War in Britain. In Britain, war memory and its oral history has been using the abundant oral resources and the methodology of oral history. The British commemoration of WWII, called "Veterans' Awareness Week', which was held between VE day and VJ day in 2005, was a venue for Oral History in various ways. Also, this essay reports on two conferences on War memories, (one of the Oral History Society in Britain, and another held in Singapore) in order to consider what oral historians can contribute to the formation of the archives and history of war memory and experience. This paper also discusses the merit and demerit of therapeutic intervention in relation to the PTSD narratives.
