Description
Add-drop optical filters are important devices for wavelength-division multiplexing in optical communications. In this study, we theoretically investigated a prism-type add-drop filter using metal nanoclusters. The filter consists of periodic mutilayers of glass layers and metal island layers composed of the metal nanoclusters sandwiched between two 45° glass prisms. Results show that the proposed filter is insensitive to polarization and incident angle in comparison with conventional filters using dielectric multilayers.
