The purpose of this study was to analyze researches on the relationship between shift work and coronary heart disease in the literature and to suggest studies needed on shift work and coronary heart disease of nurses in Japan.

We searched literatures in the MEDLINE database so that 15 research papers were selected. Most of the study participants were males of blue colors. There were three papers that investigated the relationship between shift work and coronary heart disease risk factors in Japan. Most researches described that shift work increased the risk of coronary disease. Longer the term of shift work was, higher the risk of coronary disease was. From these, we suggest that a study on the relationship between disease and shift work of female nurses is needed in Japan.
