Abstract
We have developed a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) using high purity oxygen gas, which is capable of highly concentrated ozone. Minute nitrogen oxides gas can be controlled by mixing a small amount of nitrogen gas. The applied voltage was ±1.4 kV, and the frequency was 40 kHz. The bacteria spores were sterilized in 7 min for the case of high purity oxygen gas, and 12 min for the case of including N2=5,000 ppm in gas phase. Also sterilized in 25 min in each gas case in water phase. Although ozone reached around 6 mg/L in 25 min each gas case, the more nitrogen ratio increased, the more nitrate acid and nitrite acid increased in water phase. Compared those results, nitrogen oxides are not essential for this plasma sterilization system.
