Description
The present study examined effects of Structured Group Encounter (SGE) on participants’ self-concept and psychological adjustment. SGE programs, which consisted of three themes (communication, group discussion and career), were performed in sessions of a university where 63 undergraduate students (39 males and 24 females) participated. Participants were asked to complete questionnaires on self-concept and psychological adjustment in pre and post sessions, and also to evaluate contents of each theme of SGE programs. Results showed that there scarcely emerged effects of SGE, while it was also revealed such effects in the post session as those who positively evaluated the SGE program on group discussion, showed increased trust for self and others, and those who positively evaluated the program on career had taken forward-looking attitudes toward the vocational decision. Availability of SGE performed in the sessions of the a university and the possibility of applying SGE to career education in universities were discussed based on the results.
