Abstract

<p>The objective of this study is to develop an active suspension system with an electromagnetic actuator, which is used to control the vibration of the vehicle body and regenerate the vibration energy. In this paper, a 1/4 vehicle dynamics model with the electromagnetic actuator is established. Then, the electromagnetic actuator is designed and fabricated. The actuator has the compact structure, and primarily consists of six magnet rings and a coil. The magnetic field and output force of the actuator are measured experimentally, and the measured result shows maximal output force is 25.03 N. Finally, the dynamic simulation of the active suspension system based on a PID control strategy is conducted with a random road. The simulation results show that the RMS values of acceleration, dynamic deflection and dynamic load on the active suspension are reduced by 44%, 35%, 14% compared with the passive suspension, respectively. </p>
