Abstract
The circle of Willis is structure such as the rings to be constructed by the cerebral blood vessel in the base of the brain. It's function has been supposed to be a compensatory mechanism in the case of occlusion or stenosis of internal carotid artery or vertebral artery. Recntly, researchers in Croatia presented several arguments that via negative should discard the compensation theory. They hypothesized that the circle of Willis and its communicating arteries protect cerebral artery and blood-brain barrier from hemodynamic stress. I review importance of the circle of Willis based on these articles.
