Description
To improve fruit quality of the F_1 hybrids between strawberry cultivar of 'Nyoho' and Fragaria chiloensis L. CHI-24-1, many backcrossed strains (BC_<1S>) were bred between three cultivars and the three F_1 hybrids. Floral initiations under 24 hour daylength and fruit quality of the BC_<1S> were investigated. Of the 562 BC_<1S>, 44.3% were induced floral initiation (1.8% from the parent plants, 29.5% from the runner plants, 13% from the parent and runner plants). The average weight, skin toughness and firmness of the fruits in BC_<1S> were higher than those of the F_1 strains. The fruit acidity of the BC_1 was significantly lower than that of the F_1 strains. No significant difference of soluble solid contents between the BC_<1S> and the seed parent cultivars were detected.
