Abstract

Ultrapure water can be contaminated due to various factors, such as the sampling container, laboratory environment or analyst, itself; the water quality has often already been reduced before being used for analysis. In ion chromatography (IC) analysis, devices and devices capable of in-line dilution of sample solutions and in-line pretreatment have been developed; the operating methods are developed accordingly. Inevitably, the ultrapure water system needed new functions, such as a continuous supply of ultrapure water to this equipment; an improvement of the water quality is required. In order to satisfy these requirements, we developed an ultrapure water system that allows for a continuous supply to the IC system directly for long periods while eliminating various contamination sources. In this study, a comparison was made between the case where ultrapure water was directly supplied to the IC and the case where water was taken from the ultrapure water system and stored in a water reservoir. Directly supplied ultrapure water reduced the background noise in the chromatography, and improved the stability of the analyte retention times. Through this, the system for the direct supply of ultrapure water showed an improved accuracy of the analysis.
