Description

The results of a long-running annual poll on reading reveal that there was no decline in reading among young people up to around 2005. However, by the 80s it was already “conventional wisdom” that “young people today don’t read.” This study shows how the biases of intellectuals, the publishing industry, and journalism interacted to construct this perception and how it came to be “comfortably” accepted by the audience.
