Description

When a tribe of “strangely-dressed” youth, called Miyuki-zoku, appeared in the streets of Ginza in the summer of 1964, contrary to today’s general understanding, they were negatively viewed by the print media, including Heibon Punch, and VAN. This study shows the roles played by Heibon Punch and VAN from the 1980s in changing the social memory of the Miyuki-zoku and reconstructing them in an affirmative manner as a youth culture.
