Abstract

“Introduction” Abdominal ultrasound examination in our complete medical checkup was performed according to the basic scanning method recommended by The Ultrasound Examination Forum, and three cross sections of the liver renal contrast, long and short axis images of the gall bladder, were recorded at the time of no abnormal findings. The Manual for Abdominal Ultrasound in Cancer Screening and Health Checkups recommends recording of 16 or more cross sections. Therefore, 22 cross sections of the basic cross sections proposed by The Ultrasonic Examination Forum in the basic scanning method were selected, and the examination time before and after increasing the number of recorded cross sections was examined. “Target / Method” Inspections were conducted in our hospital human dock examination, 92 cases of three cross sections were examined by the conventional method, and 102 cases of 22 cross sections were examined. “Result” The median time for the conventional method was 9 min 45 s, whereas the median time for the new method was 11 min 1 s. In the conventional method, the examination time was significantly shorter by a median value of 1 min 16 s (p = 0.002). In addition, in one or more findings of the examinations, the examination time was significantly shorter for the conventional method by a median value of 1 min 26 s (p < 0.001). “Conclusion” Increasing the number of recorded cross sections in abdominal ultrasonography will increase the examination time, but consideration should be given to the response of the entire facility to record the required number of cross sections.
