Description

Test UHDTV satellite broadcasting was started on August 1st, 2016. In 2018, practical UHDTV satellite broadcasting will be provided by using the right- and left-hand circular polarization in the 12-GHz band. For satellite broadcasting reception, a low noise block converter of a receiving antenna converts the 12-GHz band receiving signals to the intermediate frequency (IF) and the IF signals are transmitted with coaxial cables or optical fibers. Therefore, ARIB STD-B63 standardized the left-hand circular polarization IF (2224.41 to 3223.25 MHz), whose frequency is higher than that of the currently used IF (1032.23 to 2070.25 MHz). Because the left-hand circular polarization IF band overlaps with the 2.4-GHz band wireless LAN system, it is important to evaluate the shielding effectiveness of coaxial cables when we transmit the IF signals on a coaxial cable. Hence, we measured the coaxial cables and obtained the shielding effectiveness of 90 to 110 dB in 2 to 3 GHz. From this result, we showed the possibility of the frequency sharing of the IF system and the wireless LAN system.
