<p>This article is focused on elucidating the costume characteristics in the inhabited area of Qiang in Scichuan, China. Through literature surveys, historical references from the "Portraits of Periodical Offering" of the Qing Dynasty and the Northern and Southern Dynasties, and field researches, we were able to identify the following points: (1) The characteristics in the costumes in the inhabited area of the Qiang is influenced by several other ethnic cultures which exist in the nearby area. (2) Nowadays, the costumes worn by the local people are considered to be embroidery. However, in ancient times, embroidery was fairly rare. The people tended to use local materials, such as hemp, leather, or wool to form their own costume culture. (3) The costumes in this area changed according to the type of environment where the people live in and livelihood such as farming, ranching and hunting.</p>
