Description

In order to verify the effect of treatment techniques in clinical psychology, analog study were repeatedly conducted on symptoms of fear often found in normal subjects towards such things as insects and animals. The purpose of the present study was to explore the factor structure of the Insect Fear Questionnaire in Japanese (IFQ-J), and to investigate the reliability and validity of the IFQ-J. The participants were 336 undergraduate students. The Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confırmatory Factor Analysis were conducted and showed that the IFQ-J had one-factor structure with 11-items. The IFQ-J had good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha=.94), and test-retest reliability (r=.88). The correlation between IFQ-J and FQ-Insects was r=.67, and other correlations between IFQ-J and FQ-16 (agoraphobia, blood-injury phobia, and social phobia) were r=.24-.34. The results showed a signifıcant positive correlation between IFQ-J and PRS- insects (r=.66-.72). Finally, results of correlation analysis revealed positive correlation between the IFQ-J and PANAS-negative, but not with STAI-Trait and CES-D. This study suggested that IFQ-J is a reliable and valid measure for assessment of insect fear, and seems to be useful for both analogue research setting. However, further studies are needed when applying these techniques to clinical practice.
