- Effect of Temperature and Water Absorption on Mechanical Properties and Fracture Mechanism of CF/PA6
説明

In this report, we treated with the CF/PA6 sheets, which is consists of short carbon fibers and thermoplastic resin polyamide 6. In order to evaluate the water absorption behavior of CF/PA6 sheets, the water absorption tests and the simulations based on the diffusion equation were conducted. The influence of the fiber orientation in the behavior was not dominant and the diffusion equation can evaluate the behavior quantitatively. The tensile tests before and after water absorption were conducted to evaluate the change of the mechanical properties of CF/PA6 sheets. After water absorption, the tensile stiffness and tensile strength deteriorate dramatically for the all specimens with the different fiber orientation, and the 45 and TD specimens became the brittle as increasing the immersion temperature. In addition, in order to clarify the change of the fracture mechanism, the fracture surfaces of the specimens were observed. The macroscopic fracture depends on the microscopic changes which are the deteriorations of the matrix resin and that of the fiber/matrix interface. It is considered that before and after water absorption, the primary factor of the fracture mechanism of the CF/PA6 sheets is transitioned from the debonding of the fiber/matrix interface into the breaking of the matrix resin.
