- Elastic-Plastic and Fracture Behaviors of SiC material by Peridynamics and MD Simulations

<p>Peridynamics (PD) simulations are performed for indentation testing of silicon carbide (SiC) material which is recognized as a solid and crystalline substance with truly high brittleness. The discussion is made on the relationship between elastic-plastic deformation and fracture (crack). Aiming at multiscale modeling which will be suitable to predict reliable mechanical properties, parameters required in elasticity and plasticity modeling of PD calculation are derived from relevant molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The results of damage propagation show remarkable dependence on a PD calculation parameter “critical stretch”. The transition of hardness is similar to ordinary stress-strain relation and the maximum value of hardness estimated by PD simulations agrees quite well with experimental fact.</p>
