Abstract

In superchannel transmission, cascaded reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) filtering and inner-subcarrier interference with frequency detuning is issue of the signal performance degradation throughout the system life. In this paper, we proposed a collaborative subcarrier (SC) frequency control method for two subcarriers, dual-polarized quadri-phase-shift keyed (2SC-DP-QPSK) and two subcarriers, dual-polarized quadrature amplitude modulated (2SC-DP-16QAM) superchannel signals. We dither the optical carrier frequencies of the SCs comprising the superchannel synchronously at the transmitter, monitor the performance of all the SCs and convert to the error signals at the receiver, and feed the error signals back to the transmitter to search for the optimum frequency settings. According to our numerical simulation and experiment of the static performance, we confirmed the performance degradation due to the proposed control method is less than the performance degradation due to frequency drift. We also numerically confirmed that the dynamically performance can keep a certain amount of Q-factor degradation.
