Description
Overlay-based network virtualization has been widely accepted as mutli-tenant cloud services are growing. However, supporting BUM traffic delivery on a virtual network is difficult because BUM packets are regard as broadcast packets for the entire datacenter network. Several studies have addressed this problem so far, there are still pragmatic problems such that traffic concentration and synchronization cost of distributed topology databases. In this paper, we propose a novel approach named TE-Cast (Topology Embedded xCast). In our approach, extended OpenFlow virtual switches play a role of route reflector, and they forward unicast-transformed BUM packets including network topology information. We evaluated our proposal using 7 physical machines and 16 virtual machines. As a result, our proposal reduced the total number of packets compared to existing approaches.
