Description

To know the reality of the foreigners ( most of them are 2- or 3-year residents ) working mainly in ship-building companies on this island, interview is carried out. This interview is supposed to clarify the following points : to what extent their Japanese competence comes up to start jobs here in Japan; how they are integrated in the life circumstance with their linguistic ability. These points are to give us hints and help us decide the direction we will build a living environment widely including foreigners as well as us Japanese. According to the interview result, it is shown that they are living, with rather poor Japanese, in a very narrow triangle consisting of the three apices : working place, sharing house where they live with their compatriots, and supermarket they need few Japanese words for shopping in.
