抄録

Animal welfare has recently become an important policy for the European Union (EU) and the World Organisation for Animal Health（OIE）. In 2012, battery cages for egg-laying hens were banned in the EU; however, no specific regulations regarding cows exist because the dairy chain is considerably complicated in global terms. Nonetheless, the organic milk market has been extended in the EU. In Japan, conversely, a animal-friendly dairy supply chain began in 2014, and the fifty-one consumers groups buy the pastured milk. Accordingly, this paper analyses the current situation of the animal-friendly supply chain in Japan.
