Description

In this study, we measured and analyzed noises under various house operations. Subsequently we studied the ingredients of auditory signals for electrical and household appliances in order to find out the frequency that makes both older and younger people can hear easily. As a result, it was found that the noises under various house operations have broader frequency range up to 4 kHz, while the mechanical noises caused by such household appliances as a laundry machine and a ventilation fan have lower frequency components than 500 Hz. The noises were measured in actual 16 houses and were analyzed by using 1/1 octave band filter. The measurement was made for cooking in a kitchen, washing dishes, watching a TV, vacuum-cleaning a house and a washing machine. In the next test regarding how auditory signals are heard or recognized under house noises, 13-pattern house noises that were actually recorded in the monitors’ houses and 5-pattern auditory signals (1, 1.5, 2, 3 and 4 kHz) were used in combination. The result has proved that the frequency range from 1.5 kHz to 3 kHz is appropriate as an auditory signal. Additionally, it is deemed to be more appropriate to use the frequency lower than 3 kHz as an auditory signal in the case where the aged people having lower hearing capability use such household appliances because each person has a different hearing loss.
