Abstract

<p>"Girlsʼ Education", written by Naruse Jnizo, was published in 1896.Naruse insisted that the principle policy of girlsʼ education is to educate fi rst as a person, secondly as a woman, and thirdly as a nation.Naruse pointed out that girlsʼ education in Japan in the Meiji period only took in the method of girlsʼ education in Western countries, and advocated the establishment of future girlsʼ education in Japan. Naruseʼs policy of girlsʼ education is the following three. 1 .Focus on ordinary education. The reason is that the girl might meet various circumstances in the future. It is necessary to improve power as one person for that. Naruse expected the power of girls for the development of society. 2 .Education that brings out the abilities that girls are born with. Naruse hopes that girls will learn domestic and external knowledge and create new families. 3 .Develop qualifi cations to fulfi ll national obligations. Naruse thought that the girl higher ordinary education in Japan disregarded wisdom education and put the weight of the practical education. Therefore, he criticized the girlʼs wisdom and learning as incomplete. Therefore, he proposed to increase the length of training in higher education and to increase the length of higher girlsʼ education to four years. In addition, he considered setting up a university to receive the best education for the next three years. As one of them, he examined the Faculty of Home Economics and expected the improvement of family life, which is the basis for the development of national power.</p>
