Description

<p>In case a large number of passengers can not move away from an escalator exit area with some reasons (i.e. a congestion occurs), the other passengers on the escalator will not be able to get off the escalator smoothly, and in severe cases, passengers may collide each other or fall down. In order to avoid this risk, we developed a congestion detection system. The congestion detection system can detect the congestion degree based on the flow of people measured by two 2D laser scanners, and automatically changes speed or stops the escalator according to the congestion degree. This paper introduces the details of the system.</p>
