Abstract

The farmhouse of a cold region does not have agricultural income in winter, and aging of the agricultural worker has been an issue. In order to solve these issue, the energy system introduced into a plant factory for the low-temperature treatment of a spinach has been examined. Spinaches are typical agricultural products of the Hokkaido Okhotsk area, when a spinach is put to low-temperature environment (7 ℃ or less), it is known that a sugar content will increase. Accordingly, electricity and heat supply by SOFC (solid oxide fuel cell) cogeneration, and cold heat supply by an absorption refrigerating equipment and a ventilation fan were introduced in the proposed plant factory. Starting from the cost of establishing the facilities to accounting for the cost of energy consumption by the air-conditioning units and LED lights, and the time taken (in terms of years) to recover this expenditure at the time of establishing the proposed system in a cold region, were investigated. In this study, the hanging cultivation method of spinach with a high cultivation density is taken into consideration, and the Hokkaido area which is most suitable for low-temperature treatment was studied.
