Abstract

The sediment disasters occurred over simultaneously a wide area due to the heavy rainfall in July 2020. A large amount of sand and driftwood flowed out from the estuary of the Kumagawa River into the Yatsushiro Sea. The marine debris not only hinders the free navigation of ships, but also spreads to the aquaculture industry and tourism industry, so prompt removal work is required. The Sentinel-1 satellite data observed before and after the disaster are freely available after observation and has C-band characteristics. Interpretation and extraction of marine debris was investigated using the time-series of SAR satellite data. In addition, the incidence angle and polarization suitable for extracting marine debris were considered by using SAR satellite images under different observation conditions. As a result, it was considered that it would be effectively used for the interpretation and extraction of marine debris in the event of a disaster.
