Abstract

The recently developed paper disk type groundwater flow velocimeter (PDV) is inexpensive, do not require a power supply, and can be used for simultaneous observations at multiple locations. In this study, we measured groundwater flow direction and velocity at multiple points in a high moor bog in Hokkaido to obtain local groundwater flow direction and velocity distributions. The surface groundwater flows according to the groundwater level distribution. The groundwater flow direction and velocity can be measured even in areas where the groundwater level distribution is difficult to obtain due to large topographical changes such as around wetland trenches. The flow velocity measured by the paper disk type groundwater flow velocimeter was almost consistent with that measured by the calorimetric type velocimeter.
