Description

[Aims] To clarify students’ learning through a simulated seminar using SBAR, and discuss the relevant issues. [Method] 1) Subjects: A total of 39 third-year nursing students. 2) Summary of the seminar: It was hypothesized that the situation was 3 days after surgery for stomach cancer, in which students collect information using a simulator and report the results to nurses using SBAR. 3) Seminar objectives: i. Being able to observe the systemic conditions of patients' and measure/assess their vital signs, ii. Being able to deal with pain, and iii. Being able to determine the current situation and predict potential events within 15 minutes, and make reports about them. 4) Data analysis: Qualitative analysis was performed based on reports regarding what students have noticed and learned during the seminar. [Results] The students’ learning was divided into the following 8 categories: <efficient gathering/assessment/reporting of information>, <understanding of patients’ conditions and postoperative courses>, <organizing relevant information and issues>, <sorting important information>, <handing over information in a manner so that one’s counterpart understands it>, <making proposals that lead to patient care>, <having difficulty handing over information to one's counterpart>, and <clarifying the reasons for assessment>.
