Description

An exhibition on the many uses of the hemp plant was held from June 18 to September 7, 2012. The name “Azabu University” comes from the place name in Tokyo where our university was established in 1890. “Azabu” means a place where hemp grows. Today, the image of hemp is a dangerous plant, but this is a new phenomenon since the end of World War II. Before that, hemp had been regarded as a very useful plant, providing raw material for cloth as well as rope, etc, and even as a holy plant to use for ceremonies or religious events. The hemp plant has great potency for various objectives including food, medicine, construction materials, and fuel for machines. Its cultivation could even help to revive rural areas of Japan. The objective of this exhibition is to spread better understanding of hemp.
