説明

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between personality and the forms of address through a survey on 284 university students. NEO-FFI was used in the survey for analyzing five different personality traits. However, only Extraversion, Openness and Agreeableness were used in this study. Moreover, six scenarios were established and participants were asked to select the forms of address based on each situation. Besides, the friend established in scenarios is defined as “acquaintance” which means he is somewhere between a close friend and a stranger. However, Extraversion and Openness were not associated with forms of address in all situations. The results show that the high Agreeableness group chose to use a nickname rather than a honorific title for a female friend in a group after a year of knowing each other. It is suggested that the high Agreeableness participants selected the forms of address for female friends in order to be friendlier and align themselves with the opinions of those around.
