Description
We proposed a new excitation method of the surface polaritons of Fano-mode which can not be excited by the attenuated total reflection method. We designed and produced the thin film waveguide in order to excite suface polaritons of Fano mode at Ag-SiO_2 interface. When a wave number of the optical guided waves propagating in the dielectric thin film waveguide (SiO_2/Ta_2O_5/SiO_2) is equal to the one of the surface polaritons, the mode coupling between two medes occurs. Therefore we can confirm the excitation of the surface polaritons by detecting an attenuation of optical guided waves. Analysis was made using the surface polariton and TM waveguide beam were obtained. These analysis results were confirmed experimentally. At the result, the effectiveness of the new method to excite the surface polaritons was established.
