A brushless and commutatorless motor considered here has no distributor to detect the position of rotor. Instead of it, there is a pilot winding on the armature winding, and commutation is accomplished at the zero closs point of e.m.f. induced in it. This fact is a remarkable feature of this motor. Formulae for calculating the characteristics of this motor were derived. First, if the current into the thyristor bridge is given, the corresponding angular velocity to it is calculated from the voltage equibrium condition. Next, the corresponding feed-back current to the angular velocity is calculated approximately, and the relationship between the DC source current and the angular velocity is obtained. In order to obtain the real circuit constants, tests for no load saturation curve and short circuit curve are carried out using a diode bridge together. The calculated results agreed well with the experimental results. Therefore the derived formulae are considered to be available. In order to improve the characteristics of this motor, it is necessary to reduce the resistance and inductance of armature winding and the resistance of smoothing choke coil.
