Abstract

Stress Coping is an important concept in behavioral medicine. It buffers or intensifies the impact of stressors as an intermediate factor in the stress process. In this article, basic researches and clinical researches on the stress coping in recent years were reviewed to provide a trend and a perspective of the stress coping research. The main results can be summarized as follows: 1) Genetic factor and cultural factor as well as individual factor concern the stress coping. 2) Knowledges of researches for the animal as well as those for the human will contribute to the consideration about human stress coping. 3) In recent years, it tends to develop the scale limiting subject type, referring to existing scales in the scale development research. Additionally, there is some opinions which suspect the data gotten by usual questionnaires. 4) In a past, it has generally considered that problem-focused copings buffer the impact of stressors, but contrarily emotion-focused copings intensify it. 5) In recent years, however, a concept of coping flexibility is featuring in the field of stress coping research. In conclusion, it is expected that the stress coping research will be carried out based on these knowledges on diverse viewpoints.
