Description

The purpose of this study was to presume the function of self-disclosure in close relationship process by examining amounts, needs, and norms of disclosure. The targets of analysis were 220 undergraduates(105 males and 115 females). They were asked to imagine a same-sex friend and to rate the intimacy. Then amounts, needs, and norms of disclosure were measured by the Self-disclosure Scale that had been created. The main finding were: (1) There is a liner association between the stage of friendship and amounts of disclosure, (2) needs of disclosure that linked to contacts increased the middle stage of friendship, and (3) norms of disclosure tie to extend relationships gained in the middle stage of friendship, and tie to confirm similarity/difference gained in the later stage. On these results, it was presumed the functions of disclosure were differed from the stage of friendship.
