Description

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of forming intimate relationships upon one’s view of interpersonal relationships by questionnaire in a longitudinal design. The view of interpersonal relationships meant one’s way of view on relating to others. Forming intimate relationships, closeness, was measured by the quantities of behaviors or activities conducted with one’s partner and by the feeling of trust in him/her. Questionnaire was delivered twice at 3-months intervals. Subjects were 51 students (21 males and 30 females) who responded to both surveys. The results indicated that as the behaviors in romantic relationships became more intimate, people tended to consider it important to cooperate and behave in sincere attitude toward others and to state their opinions clearly. Such a tendency was remarkable for the people who had romantic relationships for less than 1 year.
