Description

The cysteinyl leukotrienes (CysLT) are lipid mediators that have been implicated in the pathogenesis of allergic diseases. We have previously reported that CysLTs were recovered from the nasal lavage fluid of allergic rhinitis patients after allergen provocation. Pharmacological studies using CysLTs indicate two classes of receptors named CysLT1 and CysLT2 receptor exist. Our in situ hybridization and immunohistochemical studies on nasal mucosa revealed eosinophils, mast cells, macrophages, neutrophils and vascular endothelial cells expressed CysLT1 receptor. Our understanding of their role in allergic rhinitis has increased, but further, extensive investigation is required.
