Abstract
This paper is to clarify how Japanese women living in the UK as migrants faced Brexit and reconstructed their identities. 31 interviewees, who identified themselves as Japanese before Brexit, show the attitude that they are seeking to find a position in the UK. Some of them try to be in a similar position as ‘cosmopolitan’ Londoners, the others categorise themselves as migrants but divide ‘migrant’ into several categories according to their characteristics, in order to be in the ‘safe’ migrant category. This research concludes that rapid social change could lead to the reconstruction of the identities of minority people who adapt to the new social order. These points will be illustrated with some cases using an empirical approach.
