Description

The effect of Ni addition on the initial corrosion resistance of Fe-Ni binary alloy was investigated by using corrosion monitoring, electrochemical measurement and XPS. The results show that the corrosion rate under the atmospheric corrosion environment was reduced to less than 1/10 by the addition of Ni. It was found that Ni addition suppressed the dissolution reaction of iron from the anodic polarization curves. However, the impedance of the surface oxide film was almost unchanged and the proportion of Ni oxide in 5Ni was very small according to XPS. The improvement in corrosion resistance due to the addition of Ni is presumed to be affected by the grain size of the metal structure.
