Abstract

During the period from 1410 to 1440 under the Ming the Chien-chou Jurchens made nine migrations. The times of six migrations are known, while the rest unidentified. These migrations took place, as a rule, in March and April, but earlier or later under the pressure from the outside. Though there were other minor causes, the main cause of migration was agricultural, since agriculture was the mainstay of their ecconomy and mid-April was the time to begin cultivation.
