説明

Urine osmolality was measured to examine its accuracy, precision and stability by using Osmotron-20 Osmometer. And circadian variation of urine osmolality, as well as those of urine volume and sodium excretions were studied in normotensive and hypertensive subjects. 1. Intraassay variation of urine osmolality by Osmotron-20 Osmometer was small with range of coefficient of variance being 0.0-0.2%. 2. Reproducibility was feasible with as little as 50 ul of sample, however, 100 ul of sample was desirable for daily assay. 3. Dilution maneuver did not lose its proportional equivalency. There was a linear relationship over the range of 0 to 121lmOsm/l. 4. Urine osmolality was stable at least one week at 4℃ and for 3 months when urine was kept frozen. 5. There were no significant differences in the results after the second melting with those after first melting. 6. Urine osmolality showed circadian variation, being low during the daytime and high during the night time both in normotensives and hypertensives. Urine volume and sodium excretions also showed circadian variations that fluctuate in opposite patterns compared with that of osmolality.
