Application and Effect of Mental Training on Tennis Athletes

Description

The purpose of this study was to consider the technique and effect of mental training based on a combination of relaxation training and image training. Six high school tennis players were selected as subjects. They were trained twenty times for about three months. A training session consisted of 3 to 5 minutes of image training. The effects were analyzed and the results were as follows: 1.Psychological competitive ability was improved in all the items after the training. Total scores calculated by summing up the score of each item showed a significant increase. 2.The scores of trait anxiety decreased after the training. Decreases were especially significant in the factors causing the strain in action and the factors lowering the competitive volition. 3.The scores of competitive state anxiety showed low values due to the strain in action in athletic meets before the training. However, after the training the values shifted to the comparatively stable state with confidence.
