Description

MCM-41 based mesoporous nanocomposites are synthesized by use of the solubilization effect of surfactant micellar templates, UV-VIS spectra of the nanocomposites correspond well to those of the solubilized hydrophobic substances, e.g. tetraphenylporphin, ferrocene or Au ultrafine particles. Ahydrophobic fluorescent probe confirms that the hydrophobic substances solubilized in the templating micelles are successfully incorporated in the channels of MCM-41. The fluorescence maximum of the probe in MCM-41 indicates a considerably hydrophobic environment compared to that the SiO2 framework of the pore walls would provide. Calcined MCM-41 incorporating ferrocene shows an excitonic absorption at 310nm, suggesting formation of quantum-sized Fe2O3 within the channels.
