This study examined the relationship between the Japanese version of Thought Control Questionnaire (TCQ-J), which assesses 5 strategies to control intrusive thoughts, and depression from the perspectives of depressive automatic thoughts, rumination as an index of vulnerability, and depressive symptoms. A questionnaire survey on 317 university students (Male: n=100. M=20.28, (SD=1.66); Female: n=214, M=19.94 (SD=2.12); unknown: n=3) was performed. Correlational analyses showed that (1) the punishment subscale of the TCQ-J had positive correlations to automatic thoughts, rumination, and depressive symptoms, (2) the worry subscale had positive correlations to automatic thoughts and rumination, (3) the distraction subscale had negative correlations to automatic thoughts an d depressive symptoms. The relationship between thought control strategies and depression was discussed by comparing with the relationship between thought control strategies and anxiety.
