Abstract

Since drivers honk very frequently while driving on the roads at Makassar City in Indonesia, taking the effect of not only running vehicle but also horn into consideration is needed when predicting the road traffic noise at roadside areas in Makassar City. Regarding this, this paper examines the acoustical characteristics of horn sound of vehicles. Acoustical measurement is performed by using test vehicles in Makassar City, and the power level and the frequency characteristics for motorcycles and light vehicles are obtained. The result of simulation shows that the predicted L_<Aeq> of the road traffic noise considering the obtained power level in this paper agrees well with the measured one.
