Abstract

This article is to explain concretely developing aspect of the productive power in the rice-producing agriculture of the Kaga 加賀 clan's territory in the middle of Tokugawa era, and to point out its adequacy and fundamental relation to the then generally established form of small farmers' management. Considering the change of productive powers temporally in male and female labour force and the number of horses for cultivation, manure and the kind of farming tools, rice and its crop, cultivating method and its system, and the agricultural productivity, we can find out it progressive in the direction of the poly-manure intensive farming. This development of the productive power also is relative to a certain limit in the progress of monetary economy and to movement and transformation of agricultuarl labour force. The general independence of the small management is thought to depend on these development, which drives it immediately into the new disintegration of peasantry. There is a great historical significance of this big change in agriculture and the development of polymanure intensification on its basis.
