Abstract

The beginning of the Sung Period A. D. 974 abolished the Hsiang (郷) as administrative unit and divisived in some Kuans (管) . There set the Hu-chang (戸長) (tax), the Chi-chang (耆長) (judicature) and the Chen-chiang (鎮将) (police). In a short time the Hsiang recovered, but the administrative unit formed the system of "the Hsien (県) - Hsiang (郷) - Kuan (管) - T'sun (村) " or "the Hsien -Kuan -Hsiang." This question studied by the four monuments and the resy of the Hsiang-t'ai-chik (相台志) -the geography of the Ho-nan (河南) in the Northern Sung Period. The latter was preserved in An-yang-hsien-chih (安陽県志) 1819. The Kuan as ,administrative unit successived from the Yuan (元) to the Ming (明) Period.
