“Shuowen Jiezi Xizhuan” (説文解字繫傳), written by Xu Kai (徐鍇), is regarded as one the most comprehensive material remaining the state of “Shuowen Jiezi” before the Sung dynasty. The currently available editions of “Shuowen Jiezi Xizhuan” were handwritten or printed during the Qing dynasty, and their sources are still being investigated. Among them, the Siku Quanshu (4K) edition has many irregular variants in the heading seal glyphs those are different from other editions. To confirm whether these glyphs were mistakenly drawn, we compared the Wenyuange (文津閣, WYG) and Wenjinge (文津閣, WJG) versions. The WYG version was the fi rst of the 4K edition, and the WJG version was the last of the 4K edition. As a result, we found that many of the variants were shared between the WYG and WJG versions, indicating that they came from a 4K source book that has been lost. However, some parts in the WJG version were found to have been revised with respect to the WYG version. The revised glyphs are compared with other editions. The comparison result implies that the revision used Wang Qishu edition (汪啓淑本), which was published just after the WYG version.
